Euphyllia sp. This hammer coral was purchased in November of 1998. It is a beautiful coral with long tentacles which wave in the current. It has almost doubled in size since November. Hammer coral is very closely related to Anchor coral - the only difference being the shape of the polyp tip. Hammer has T-shaped ends, while Anchor has curved or kidney shaped. There is also a branching variety of both types. The needs of all varieties are the same. They prefer bright light and low to medium water flow. They can send out powerful sweeper tentacles, so care must be taken to place them a safe distance from neighboring corals.
